Cummings Inc. announced
that
Jeff Jones
, vice
president of North American
engine business and
marketing communications,
will retire from the company
at the end of June. Jones
began his career as an
application engineer at GM
before joining Cummins in
1997.
AmyBoerger
and
Lori Thompson
will take over
for Jones. Boerger joined
Cummins in 1984, holding
a number of titles, most
recently general manager of
field sales and support. She’ll
take charge of the leadership
of the North American engine
business, while Thompson,
who began her career with
Cummins in 1979, will
become vice president of
engine businessmarketing.
Florida Crane Owners
Council awarded three
service awards during their
April membershipmeeting
in Boca Raton, which was
held in conjunction with the
SC&RA Annual Conference.

as a crane operator and
has become known for his

Boom truck pioneer
Ray Pitman dies
Raymond FloydPitman, Sr., 89, who is known for developing the
cherry picker crane, boom trucks and other equipment, passed
away onMay 7, 2014. Born inWebbCity,MO, Pitman spentmost
of his childhood in St. Joseph,MO. After high school heworked in
theKansaswheat fields before being drafted into theU.S. Army.
He proudly served inWorldWar II in the SouthPacific Theater
with the873rd Engineer AviationBattalion. In theArmy he learned
about hydraulics, which led to his life-long passion for designing and
manufacturing construction and utility equipment.
After theArmy, he foundedPitmanConstruction, which specialized
in underground utilitywork. As the company grew, he started
designing and building equipment. He and his team at Pitman
Manufacturing designed the cherry picker crane, boom trucks,
fire trucks and utility trucks. Pitman had several patents, and he
started several companies, includingROCorporation andPioneer
Engineering. In1993, on the100th anniversary of the Equipment
Manufacturers Institute, Pitmanwas honored as one of the
100most significant contributors to themechanization of the
construction and agriculture industries.
“The industry has lost a true pioneer and innovatorwho embodied
whywe call his theGreatest Generation,” saidRonDeFeo, CEO of
Terex Corporation. “Ray’s legacy
will live on in the equipment he
designed and built.”
PitmanmarriedBetty Jean
Bodwell shortly after his return
fromWWII; theyweremarried
for over 60 years. He is
survived by hiswife Susannah,
six children, 14 grandchildren
and several great grandchildren.
