Genie updates on-board
SmartLink control system
Genie has updated its SmartLink
control system. SmartLink is a
set of features for Genie products
that provides opportunities such
as on-board diagnostics and
troubleshooting.
Driven by customer feedback,
the SmartLink system upgrade
includes a new, simplified platform
controller user interface, as well
as additional functionality such
as proportional lift and control
on the joystick. The upgrade
will also reduce hand fatigue by
replacing the “push and hold”
with a “momentary push” button
to begin lifting on the joystick. To
make user experience even easier
on existing machines, the upgrade
may be quickly retrofitted in the
field.
The SmartLink system, first
introduced in 2011, allows
customers to interact with the
machine’s diagnostics directly
on the unit without any additional
tools. Advanced diagnostics can
be obtained by simply connecting
a standard laptop to the machine
with an Ethernet cable. For
customers, this solves the most
difficult portion of troubleshooting
a unit and is also unique to Genie
products.
“The SmartLink upgrade is
a clear example of how we
continuously improve our products
to provide additional value to
our customers,” said Christine
Zeznick, associate product
manager, Terex Aerial Work
Platforms.
The SmartLink system upgrade
applies to Genie scissor and
portable products that use
the SmartLink control system
including the GR, GRC, QS , slab
scissors and GS69DC/BE scissors.
Available now in North America,
all SmartLink Control System
production will incorporate this
new functionality. Retrofit kits will
be available globally in early July.
The upgrade will also be available
in EMEAR in July and China in
September.
Skyjack debuted its new electric
rough terrain scissor lift in Europe
at APEX 2014. The SJ 6832 RTE
was officially handed over to its
new owner, Swiss rental company
SkyAccess AG, at the show.
“The access market in
Europe is shifting toward green
machines, so we need electrically
powered products with powerful
performance suited to a huge
variety of job sites,” said Martin
Vögtli, managing director at the
company. “We have more than
275 Skyjack platforms already
– they are reliable and easy-to-
use machines. We are delighted
to have the first SJ 6832 RTE in
Europe.”
The new SJ 6832 RTE combines
the benefits of its diesel-powered
counterpart with a powerful
electric engine, allowing users to
easily switch between indoor and

outdoor use.
The rough terrain scissor lift is
the only machine in its class with
45 percent gradeability and four
wheel drive as standard, said the
company.
Foam-filled non-marking tires,
near zero noise levels, zero
emissions and the tightest turning
radius in its class are also features.
To simplify operator and service
training, the SJ 6832 RTE was built
on the same chassis as the existing
diesel and dual fuel 68RT units.
This allows those already familiar
with the highly popular traditionally
powered 68RT lifts to transition
seamlessly to the electric version.
