WORLD NEWS
T
he closing date for
submissions for the
2013 World Demolition
Awards of Friday 26 July 2013
is fast approaching. As was the
case in previous years and due
to the success of the event, now
in its fifth year, and the resulting
number of entries that are
expected, no entries received at
the KHL office after that date
will put before the judges for
assessment. Full details of how
to enter are available at www.
demolitionsummit.com or www.
khl.com/events.
As always, the judging panel
that will determine the final
winners is made up of leading
industry figures from around
the world. Full details on these
individuals are also available
on the website. In line with the
cooperative agreement between
D&Ri
/KHL and the European
Demolition Association, the
only new face on the panel this
year results from forthcoming
changes of the latter’s office
bearers. Outgoing EDA president
Giuseppe Panseri steps down and
is replaced by incoming EDA
vice president William Sinclair,
who also currently holds the
office of National Federation
of Demolition Contractors
president.

World Demolition Summit
takes final shape
The conference programme
for the World Demolition
Summit is getting close to
its final shape, with speakers
coming from around the world
to address the industry at the
Krasnapolski Hotel in Amsterdam on 31 October 2013.
The programme will cover a range of topics, but the emphasis
will be on the practical side of the business, with presentations
on some of the most challenging demolition projects that have
been undertaken around the world, from the Boodarie Iron
plant in the outback of Australia, through demanding urban
demolitions to implosive demolition. In addition, Howard Button
will expound on the Demolition & Recycling Information Data
Sheets (DRIDS) initiative from the NFDC.
Of note will be the presence of the world’s first high reach
training simulator in the exhibit area. Developed by the NFDC in
conjunction with Volvo and software provider Oryx Simulations,
the tilting cab unit is sure to be a major draw. In addition,
National Demolition Training Group manager Sophie Cox will talk
about its development during the conference.
Speakers at the World Demolition Summit will include
explosives specialists Dick Green, Fabio Bruno and Patrick
Villard, with traditional demolition techniques being covered by
Stuart Accleton, Claude Chene and, from Australia, Clinton Dick
together with Simon Gill, among others.

EDA rings
the changes
The 2013 European Demolition
Association convention in Milan
on 21-22 June saw changes to
the top of that organisation,
with Spain’s Pilar de la Cruz
succeeding Italian Giuseppe
Panseri as president and NFDC
president William Sinclair in turn
stepping up to the position of
vice president.
The formal hand-over took
place on the evening of the 21st
following a Gala Dinner in the
sumptuous surroundings of the
Leonardo Da Vinci Museum,
formerly a 16th Century
monastery, with the dinner itself
held in the Cenacolo, which was
the monastery’s refectory. It is
entirely decorated with stucco
and frescoes by Pietro Gilardi,
evoking the baroque splendour
of the eighteenth century and
providing a impressive backdrop
to the handover.
Pilar will serve a three year
term of office and in turn will
have over the office to William
Sinclair at the 2016 annual
convention.
