H&E Equipment Services
reported an increase in
first quarter revenues and
earnings, with growth in
both its rental and direct
sales divisions. The company,
based in Baton Rouge, LA,
said overall revenues for the
threemonths to the end of
March 2014, were up 11.7
percent year-on-year to $237
million. Net income jumped
55.7 percent to $7.4million,
while EBITDAwas up 22.2
percent to $62.7million.
Rental revenues increased
14.4 percent year-on-year to
$86.2million compared to a
year ago. H&E said the first
quarter grossmargin for rental
was 45.2 percent, compared
to 44.6 percent a year ago,
with average rental rates up
2.5 percent. The company
added that its average rental
fleet age atMarch 31, 2014,
was 34.4months – compared
to an industry average age
of 45months. Meanwhile,
new equipment saleswere up
30.4 percent against the first
quarter of 2013 to $69.5
million, with a grossmargin
of 30.7 percent, compared to
30.4 percent a year ago.

expanded its territory for
Manitowoc’sNational Crane
products to includewestern
Pennsylvania. “Extending our
footprint from Philadelphia to
Ohiowill help us to better serve
the natural gas, construction
and power industries,” said
Dennis Heller, president and

goes to Deep South

recently tookdeliveryof anew
TerexAC1000, the firstU.S.
company toown thismachine
thatmeets 12-ton axle load
limits.With the 164-footmain
boom installed, thenewAT
has a capacityof 1,320 tons.
“TheTerexAC1000
was built tomeet industry
demand for ahigh capacity
crane capableofworking in
areaswith limited space,”

&Rigging. “Its ability to
handle significantweight at
an extreme tipheightwill
giveus versatility inplanning
jobs, sincewewill be able to
mobilize this crane inplace
of other cranes inour fleet.

DeepSouth equipped itsnew
AC1000 cranewith328.1 feet
ofmain telescopingboom and
purchased enoughboom and
jib segments for themaximum
system lengthof 535.8 feet.
The craneoffers an arrayof
configurations, including
the Sideways Superlift (SSL)
system toboost lifting
capacities, and features a load
moment ratingof 2,900 ton-
meters.

Bridge recyled in Chicago
Mammoet has relocated a
century-old railwaybridge
about fivemiles to the
northern suburbs ofChicago,
giving thebridge a second life
as a cyclepath.
Thebridgewas 65.5 feet
long, 29.5 feet tall and
weighed89 tons. It once
carried an elevated rail
line about 13 feet over
AshlandAvenue, but has lain
abandoned for 50 years.
Working closelywith its
client,WalshConstruction
Company,Mammoet crews
transported thebridge to its
newhome in about twohours,
travelling atwalking speed.
Mammoet focusedon the
engineering involved, with
Walshproviding additional
personnel. Theproject
required theuseof two
10-line self-propelledmodular
transporters and a four-point
jacking system, using57Te
climbing jacks and steelmats.
The relocated, refurbished
and repaintedbridgewill form
part of thenewBloomingdale
Trail, built on (the same)
closed railway, anddue to
open to thepublic in2015.
Mammoet relocated
an old bridge to the
Chicago suburbs
where it will be
used as a bike path.
