INTERNATIONAL
NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2013
New in the
ICUEE was bursting at the
seams with attendees
and exhibitors this year.
Lindsey Anderson
reports
from the show.
A
variety of booms filled the skies at the
Kentucky Exposition Centre, 1 – 3
October, in Louisville, USA, during
the 2013 International Construction and
Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE).
Targeted at the utility sector, there were a
number of new units being introduced by
Bronto Skylift, Elliott and Terex AWP.
According to AEM, 2013 ICUEE was
by all measures an outstanding success and
one of the largest and most comprehensive
ever, with registered attendance of more than
17500, surpassing the last show, held in 2011.
Participants came from all 50 US states, all 10
Canadian provinces and 50 other countries
worldwide. “We hope the great turnout and
participation at this year’s ICUEE points
to more sustainable and broader industry
growth,” said Sara Truesdale Mooney, ICUEE
show director.
New equipment
Bronto Skylift used ICUEE to exhibit its
new S 230 XDT telescopic and articulated
aerial work platform. The unit features a
maximum working height of 230 feet (70 m),
a maximum working outreach of 115 feet (35
m) and a safe working load of 300 to 1400
pounds.
The ICUEE model was mounted on a
Mack truck; a “first in the industry,” noted Bill
Hindman, president of Bronto’s marketing
partner Industrial Marketing Systems (IMS).
The S 230 XDT features an extendable
deck, giving workers more room in the basket.
Like all models in the XDT range, the S 230
XDT has fully variable H-type jacking, fully
automatic jacking and leveling with remote
control, 6.5-inch colour displays at all control
panels, 90 degree cage rotation, two alternative
emergency operations systems and ‘fault
finding systems’ amongst many more features.
The unit on display at ICUEE was sold to
TGMWind Services in Texas.
Elliott Equipment Company unveiled its
tallest aerial work platform at the show. The
215 foot working height E160/215 is ANSI
A92.2 compliant and features 80 feet of side
reach and up to 1200 pounds of platform
capacity.The E160/215 features 30000 pounds
of material handling capacity and is mounted
on a federal bridge legal 5-axle chassis.
Elliott’s previous tallest model featured 140
feet of working height.
According to Jim Glazer, president of
Elliott Equipment Company, the unit is
designed for on- and off-road applications,
“thanks to Elliott’s two stage ‘EZ-Crib’
outriggers. It also features Elliott’s new
gravity-leveled work platform that measures
36 inches by 72 inches and also has a
hydraulic lifting system that makes it possible
for one person to easily connect the platform
yoke to the jib or boom tip.
The AWP’s basket features an OSHA-
compliant double handrail with grounding
lugs and a hydraulic tool circuit for hand
tools in the basket. The lower control console
features Elliott’s Ride-Around control console
with an adjustable premium seat and full-
pressure hydraulic controls mounted on a
360-degree continuous rotation turret for
straight ahead visibility at all boom positions.
“This is a good machine for rental
companies,” Glazer said. “We have several
models out in the field now.”
Innovative Equipment LLC showcased its
towable scissor lift, the TPX. The unit is
made for the rental market and a diesel
version will be debuted soon.
