ACCESS, LIFT & HANDLERS
JULY-AUGUST 2014
APEX REVIEW
The Z-33/18 is designed for indoor and
outdoor applications. It weighs 3,640 kg and
offers a ground clearance of 15 cm. Features
also included solid non-marking or multi-
surface tires as an option. The 1.9 m wheelbase
provides a gradeability of 30 percent, while
horizontal reach is 5.6 m and an up-and-over
clearance is 4.28 m.
Among the Italian manufacturers at the show
was Easy Lift, who showed the EV150, a new
15 m working height van-mount, and its latest
tracked model, the R360, also available with
wheels.
Tracked machines are the company’s main
business but in the Middle East there is a
preference for the wheeled version.
The company says it’s finding growth in the
Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia and Dubai,
with the latter already being established. Russia
is also a growing market.
For now the company says its main markets
are in Europe and the Far East, including China
and Singapore. Israel too is an interesting
market, says the company, and it has recently
signed up a distributorship there.
Another Italian manufacturer seeing strong
performance in emerging markets is Socage Srl.
The company recently opened an African branch
in Tunisia, and Simone Tomasi, export manager
at Socage, said the company is seeing demand
in Russia and Germany.
Socage has recently entered the North
American market and currently ships around 45
units a year to customers in the U.S. Two 72 m
units have recently been delivered to customers
in the U.S.
At APEX, Socage debuted and showcased
a number of products, including a telescopic
platform with double jib, the forSte 54TJJ, which
had already been presented in Bauma 2013, the
double articulated platform with jib, the forSte
37 DJ, which has already been sold in Europe,
the double articulated forSte 28D, which can be
mounted on 3.5 tons vehicles and has a new
patented X shape chassis and, finally, two brand
new platforms: the forSte 12 A, mounted on a
pickup, which can be dismounted and which
works without outriggers, and a telescopic
platform mounted on a van, the forSte 12VT.
“Socage has never been as strong as we
are now,” Tomasi said. “We are getting more
popular with rental, where there are lots of
possibilities.”
At Italy-based Oil & Steel, Giovanni Taconni,
sales director, agreed that now was a good
time for growth, particularly in certain parts of
Europe. “The UK is the most positive market in
Europe. It’s like North America, there’s a real
positive mood.”
On the Italian manufacturer’s stand was the
new 20 m working height fully hydraulic Snake
2010 H Plus double articulated 3.5 ton truck
mount, an update of the 2010 with straight
down H-style stabilization and total length of 5.9
m and 250 kg in the basket. The machine, says
the manufacturer, is now better suited to road
weight restrictions.
The company also changed the rotation system
on its 18 m working height Scorpion 1812 to
make it lighter, which was also on show.
Italian truck mount specialist GSR launched
its latest truck mounted platform, the B230T
Comfort XEV. The B230T is mounted on a 3.5
ton Nissan Cabstar. It offers a platform with a
Riwal’s boom bonanza in Amsterdam
Riwal purchased six JLG 1850SJ super booms, the company announced at APEX.
“When JLG came out with the 1850, we immediately noticed this impressive machine,” said
Norty Turner, CEO of Riwal. “I went up in the 1850 and I love it.”
Riwal analyzed the rental opportunities for JLG’s 185-foot (58.6 m) machine and signed the
order books for six of the units. JLG introduced the 1850SJ during ConExpo 2014. According to
sources, the purchase was the largest order for 1850SJs outside of the United States.
Riwal also debuted a converted JLG 800AJ
articulated boom from diesel to electric.
The 800AJ conversion to electric was done
following a request from KLM Royal Dutch
Airlines for a 26 m working height aerial work
platform for use on aircraft maintenance
inside the hangars that would not expose the
employees to emissions or loud noise. The
diesel engine and the fuel tank were replaced
by an electric engine, battery pack, charger
and control mechanics of the electric engine.
The customized machine is fully compliant
with the TÜV test requirements.

Chinese OEM Dingli showed its range of
products at APEX.
