ACCESS, LIFT & HANDLERS
APEX REVIEW
working height of 22.5 m and an outreach of 13
m. Its four-section boom carries a basket with a
capacity of 250 kg.
Italy-based Airo launched three products at
APEX: the XS 9 E Restyling scissor, the V10 E
vertical mast and the V6 E vertical mast.
The XS 9 E Restyling is an update with a 1
m manual platform extension. It has a working
height of 9.38 m, a capacity of 200 kg and
0.765 m width.
The V 10 E mast lift is less than a meter long
and has a maximum working outreach of 3.4
m. The V 10 and has a capacity of 200 kg, for
two people, for indoor use and 200 kg, with one
person in the basket, for use in outdoor areas.
The V6 E has a capacity of 120 kilograms and
a height of 5.50 m.
Trucking
Switching gears – and styles – pickup trucks
were the focus on the Time International stand.
Time International now markets Ruthmann work
platforms in North American. The partnership
debuted during ICUEE 2013.
At APEX, Time International was showing its
pickup Quick Shift System that allows a range
of equipment to be attached and swapped
easily, including lifts. The company was also
showing a new Isuzi pickup for the first time,
which the company said has a 3.5 ton gross
vehicle weight, allowing up to 500 kg payload
left for tools and other equipment once the lift
had been installed. Lifts can range from 11 m to
14 m working height on the vehicle.
Per Torp, CEO at Time International, said
pickups are becoming very popular in markets
outside of North America, and there are now six
in the range launched this year, with 100 sales.
Consistent with other recent exhibitions, Time
and truck-mount manufacturer Ruthmann’s
stands were side-to-side, and included a 22 m
Ruthmann truck on the Time stand. It reflects
the growing relationship between the two
companies as Torp explained.
“We fit perfectly together,” Torp said. “We
plan to offer a full complementary range.”
But, Torp said, there is no chance of the
companies merging, at least in the near future.
“We are very equal in size and both
companies are doing very well financially,”
he said. “It’s not like there is one big brother
swallowing the other one up; there are two
big brothers working together with the same
philosophy.”
Finland-based Dinolift celebrated its 40th
anniversary this year and launched its 180
XD11 trailer-mounted platform at APEX. The 18
m model has been in production for 10 years
but it needed an upgrade, including the atrium-
style outriggers, which used to be straight. It
can now be levelled on a slope of 8 percent.
The basket has a 180 degree rotation and is
clear underneath. The steel has been changed,
allowing an outreach of 11.2 m with 120 kg
load. Maximum basket capacity is 215 kg.
The Auto Start Stop function automatically
switches off the electromotor when the
machine is stationary. There is also QR code
on the machine which takes you through to
an operator instruction aid video, which the
company said had been very popular.
Keep truckin’
There was an impressive showing of new truck-
mounts at APEX, second only to the number of
new tracked products.
Palfinger launched the first model of its
Jumbo class NX series at the show. “The range
of applications for truck access platforms is
growing at breakneck speed,” said Palfinger
Platforms’ product manager Susan Ruddiman.
The machine is on a two-axle chassis with
48 m platform height and an outreach of 31.5
m. The P480 features a new X-jib design.
The hydraulically operated X-jib between the
upper boom and the basket gives the P480 a
240-degree radius. This is coupled together with
a 400-degree (2 x 200 degrees) basket rotation.
The total weight of the truck access platform is
below 18 tons.
Bronto Skylift extended its XR truck mount
range with the launch of a 47 m model at APEX.
The S 47 XR (extreme reach) follows on from
the first two models in the XR range; the S 56 XR
and S 65 XR launched at Bauma 2014, and are
an evolution of Bronto’s longstanding XDT range.
“There was a clear demand for machines
which could do more for less: reach higher and
further and yet reduce the costs and increase
the profits of the customer,” said Jan Denks,
Bronto’s sales director.
“All this meant focusing on the running costs
of the machines and resulted in a completely
new design with less weight, lower fuel
consumption and more envelope coverage per
GVW ton.”
As well as a 47 m working height, the model
includes a 28 m outreach and cage capacity
of 700 kg. Transport height is 3.6 m, while
Teupen’s modular
basket approach
Teupen showcased a prototype of a new
modular personnel basket ‘building kit
system’ at APEX. The VersaTek is made
from high-strength aluminium, and allows
customers to replace one single part,
if needed, instead of the entire basket.
Components are separate and nothing is
welded or revented. Dimensions are 1.2 by
0.8 by 1.1 m. “This is lighter and cheaper for
the customer,” the company said. Production
is expected to begin in 2015 and the basket
will be available for all Teupen models.
Attendees at APEX check out Teupen’s new
VersaTek.
Easy Lift showed the R360, pictured here,
also available with wheels.
Oil & Steel, pictured here, said APEX was a
success for the company.
