HIGHLIGHTS
Steel producer Al-Ezz
Dekheila Steel (EZDK), based
in the Middle East, has been
using two Sennebogen 640 M
mobile cranes at a steel plant
in Alexandria, Egypt. They work
for 10 hours a day loading steel
coils weighing around 2 tonnes
each. Both cranes have a
25 kW magnet system powered
by a 220 volt generator. Around
2,800 tonnes of steel coils and
3,400 tonnes of bundles leave
the production plant daily, a
company spokesperson said.
Additional machines with a
modified magnet system have
been ordered to load bundles
and coils.
Russian crane manufacturer
Avtokran, based in Ivanovo, has
released its financial results for
the first nine months of 2013.
Production of Ivanovec truck
cranes increased by more than
27 % to 1,655 units. Around
200 million roubles (US$ 6
million) has been invested in
the production plant.
Tower crane rental company Wilbert used a WT 650 e.tronic and a flat
top WT 420 e.tronic for reconstruction work at a paper mill in Alfeld,
Germany. First tasks for the WT 650 at the Sappi paper mill included
making the building structurally
sound. Work included opening
the ceiling, removing existing
steel joists and lifting new
steel and ceiling structures, a
company spokesperson said. It
was configured with 53 m height
under hook and an 82.5 m
jib. The WT 420 was then
brought in to prepare the site
for a 135 tonne MG cylinder with
a diameter of 6.5 m. The tower
cranes worked on site for
eight months.

Tiong Woon Corporation
Holding Ltd (Tiong Woon)
reported an 11 % increase in
profit for the quarter ended
30 September 2013. Figures
released by the company
show that turnover rose
3 % to S$44.6 million

The heavy lift and haulage
division rose 6 % to S$36.3
million (US$ 29 million),
contributing 81 % of the

was mainly due to an increase
in heavy lift and haulage
projects in the Asia Pacific
region, a spokesperson said.
Ang Kah Hong, Tiong Woon
executive chairman and
managing director, said, “I
am happy with our ability
to achieve good financial
performance despite the
challenging business
environment marked by rising
labour costs and economic
uncertainties. As the Singapore

its next phase of growth,
improving on productivity will
be a key concern of every
company," Ang concluded.
At 30 September Tiong Woon
had 431 cranes in its lifting
fleet and 262 vehicles and

Manitex buys
Valla and posts
positive results
On the heels of the
announcement of positive
third-quarter financial
results, Manitex International
announced that it will purchase
Valla Cranes. Mobile industrial
crane manufacturer Valla
SpA of Piacenza, Italy, posted
US$7.5 million in revenues in
2012. The purchase price was
undisclosed.
Manitex International
posted net revenue of $57.5
million, up 8 % on the $53.4
million in the same quarter of
2012. Revenue declined 8 %
compared to the record second
quarter 2013 revenue of
$62.6 million.
David Langevin, Manitex
chairman and CEO, said,
“Despite a very slow overall
economic environment, we
posted another solid quarter
of growth, putting us on
pace to reach a record level
of sales and profits for the
full year 2013. We intend to
continue to grow through the
introduction of innovative
niche products, such as our
new 15-, 30-and 70-ton crane
models along with acquisitions
such as Sabre, which closed
during the quarter, which
fit our specialized product
strategy. Specifically, the third
quarter was in line with our
expectations, with notable
improvement in our EBITDA
margin to 9.8 percent of sales
and a steady rate for our gross
margins. Given the state of
the global economy, and our
higher production levels, our
backlog is also in good shape.”
