Global first for
advancedmachine
control
A video of Komatsu’s innovative intelligent excavator
is available in thewww.khl.comVideozone.
U
nveiled at Bauma 2013, Komatsu’s PC210LC-10 excavator features
the company’s intelligentmachine control technology, which is said
to improve efficiency on site by increasing accuracy and saving time.
Dirk Legrand, deputy general manager of Komatsu Europe, believes the
time was right to launch the new technology. He said, “Themargins are so
small that people are happy to talk now.”
Komatsu said that thanks to the exclusive control function, developed
in co-operation with Topcon, the operator would no longer worry about
digging too deep or damaging a target surface. This improves efficiency,
precision and safety from rough digging to finish grading.
Thebucket is automatically limited fromdiggingbeyond the target surface
withKomatsu’s system.This maintains grade automatically, with real-time
bucket edge positioning in relation to themachine and the job surface.
The status is instantly displayed on the full colour, multi-function 307
mm in-cab display, which Komatsu said eliminated the waiting time
associatedwith conventional sensors.
Komatsu’s fully-integrated, factory installed, intelligent machine control
system includes stroke sensing hydraulic cylinders for the boom, stick and
bucket, newly developed by Komatsu for precise real time bucket edge
positioning.

Earthmoving
report
Anew special report on trends in the
earthmoving sector is now available
fromKHL.
It is comprised of previously
published articles from
iC
, along
with data on excavators, loaders,
haulers, dozers and graders drawn
from the
Yellow Book
equipment
buyers’ guide.
The report offers a unique insight
into the industry, along with
extensive data to help equipment
buyers navigate themarket.
Among the topics discussed in
the report is the emergence of new
machines in response to engine
emissions legislation around the
world. It covers a full range of
the latest Stage IV/Tier 4 Final
equipment for Europe, Japan and
North America, as well as other
majormarkets.
The issue of emissions regulations
remains a core issue that has
been a prominent focus for many
manufacturers during 2014.
At the same time, and as the new
report discusses, there are many
countries around the world that
are operating withlower emissions
controls, where Stage IV/Tier 4
Final machines are not appropriate
due to fuel quality issues.
This has led to the development of
new ranges of equipment designed
specifically for emerging markets.
This does not just mean different
engines,but formanymanufacturers
it has prompted the development of
equipment that better withstands
extreme environments and long
workinghours.
