SUPER CRANES
PRODUCT FOCUS
An upgraded version of the SK190, the
SK3050 was designed using a 5,000-ton
capacity strand jack system and a 2,000-
ton capacity winch system. Sources with
ALE Heavylift say that production on this
crane has been delayed due to the client’s
project schedule slipping.
Deep South Crane & Rigging
competes in the heavy lift market with
its VersaCrane line. The VersaCrane
TC-36000/1 tops out the range with a
capacity of 2,500 tons.
The VersaCrane is designed to provide
the lowest ground-bearing pressure in the
industry, according to the company.
In 2012, Sarens International introduced
the SGC-120. The crane has a lifting
capacity of 3,200-metric tons at 30
meters and 1,000 metric tons at 80
meters. It features a ring design with a
limited footprint, low ground bearing
pressures and was designed for worldwide
transportation in standard shipping
containers.
In 2012 the SGC-120 performed its
inaugural job at a jobsite in Chandler, AZ.
The lead time to build these super big
cranes is three to four years, so there are
many issues that can arise with a project
before the crane is completed.
But the producers of these cranes don’t
seem to be too worried.
ALE entered the super heavy lift market in
2008 when it launched the AL.SK190. The
crane has the capacity to lift approximately
4,816 tons and has worked around the
world, including at an oil refinery in Port
Arthur, TX where it changed out coker drums
and performed other heavy lift work.
