included in the list from the very
beginningwhose core activities

year, wehavemade thedecision
toonly include those companies
whowe are able to confirm
operatewithdemolition and
associated remediation activities
at the veryheart of their being.
To illustrate the impact this
has had, when looking at the
data from2014, excluding those
whono longer featureon the list
for the above reasonwouldhave
seen aEuropean contribution
ofUS$3.22billion against the
published figure, i.e. a reduction
ofUS$0.55billion.Havingmade
this calculation, the overall fall
of the
d
&
ri
100
ismuch less
dramatic than at first glance– an
declineof just 2.84%orUS$155.9
million.
Nevertheless, it does have to
be said that times do indeed seem
tohavebeendifficult for the
industry inEurope irrespective of
the above. Evenusing the revised
total, thedata for the industry in
this region indicates adownturn
in turnover of 37% against
2014–no small declineby
anybody’s standards. In contrast,
the industry in theAmericas
obviouslyhad amuch improved
year, with an increase in earnings
during2014 against 2013of
16.8%orUS$291.16million.
Forty-twoof the contractors
in the list are reported as seeing
adecline in earnings over the
courseof 2014, and in some
instances these are somewhat
eye-watering, such asOccamat’s
75%drop toUS$26 fromUS%101
million the year before andAF
Decom’s 55.3% fall toUS$108.60
million fromUS$243million.
Of course, the latter’s fortunes
maywell have been impactedby
the effect that lowoil prices are
havingonplansmade, and then
put onhold, by theoffshoreoil
andgas industry.
In addition, several leading
contractors last year have fallen
out of themain list altogether,
such asRussia’sRazz-Max (32
in the list), whowas new in
2014.
