reported earnings in excess of
US$100millionbut this year, that
number has fallen to14, adecline
of 23.3%. Thismore than suggests
that 2014was a challenging year
for all, but it nevertheless appears
that sizedoesmatterwhere the
demolition industry is concerned
–only twoof the top10 report
reduced earnings in2014 and
21do so in the top50, leaving
22 to report growth (given there
are sevennew entries in this half
of the table). And the top10 are
perhaps themost international
in recent years, with contractors
from theUSA,UK,Germany and
Belgiummakingup the topof the
list. Irrespective of its troubles
inCentral London, Keltbray
has jumped from6 to2 this
year, pipingBrandenburg, who
also climbs aplace. Thebiggest
movers in the 10 are, however,D
HGriffinWreckingwho jumps
from17 to the slot occupiedby
Keltbray last year, andHouston
based-Cherry, who climbs to9
from its previous 21position.
In thebottom50, just 17
contractors saw evidence of an
increase in earnings from2013
to2014. In summary, 42of the
contractors in the list saw a
drop in earnings during2014,
whichhardly indicates ahealthy
industry.
And thedatadoes confirm
thatwhile theremaybe recovery
prospects ahead, it is regional. All
three Italian contractors in the
list show reduced revenues and
wehavebeenunable to source
anydata for a fourthwhowas
previously listed, CMCantieri
Moderni, so it disappears entirely,
andof the fiveDutch contractors
listed, just Boverhoff saw a
modest growth.Meanwhile, of
the 12German companies that
feature, just five saw adecline,
andof 33UK contractors listed,
just 12 saw falling revenues.
InNorthAmerica, two
Canadian contractors are listed
and experiencedmixed fortunes,
withPriestly seeinggrowth
andQuantumMurray seeing a
downturn.Meanwhile, 23US
contractors appear and just eight
of these see adrop in earnings,
