ecember’s bC India construction equipment exhibition
in Delhi, India is expected to take up 120,000 m
2
of
exhibition space according to the organiser. This will
make it about the same size as the last bC India.
Theexhibitionwillbeheld for the third time fromDecember15
–18, this year at the India ExpoCentre inGreaterNoida/Delhi.
It will be its first time in Delhi, having previously been held
in Mumbai in 2013 and 2011. The inaugural show took up
88,000m2, and grew to 120,000m
2
in 2013when it welcomed
28,000 visitors.
According to organiser bCExpo India, which is a joint venture
between theUS-BasedAssociation of Equipment manufacturers
(AEM) – responsible for the ConExpo-Con/Agg exhibition,
among others – and Messe München International (MMI) of
Bauma fame, there are plenty of big names taking part in the
show.
Among the companies signed-up areACE,Ammann,Aquarius,
Bauer,BKT,Bomag,Herrenknecht,Kobelco, Liebherr, Linnhoff,
Liugong, JLG, Manitowoc, Puzzolana, Sany, Schwing Stetter,
Spartan, Terex, Volvo Penta, Wirtgen and Zoomlion. It added
that therewould alsobe strong representation from the formwork
and scaffolding sector, with Doka, KumKang, Layher, Peri,
Pranav andUlma also confirmed.
And in an unusually late development, October saw the news
that Caterpillar’s two Indian dealers,
GMMCO and TILP, had applied for
space at the show.
There will also be seven national
pavilions at bC India, from China,
Germany, Italy, South Korea, Spain, the
UK andUS.
Although these indoor pavilions tend
to house some relatively small stands, the
companies represented can be makers of
big equipment. For example, one of the
companies in the Spanish pavilionwill be

Market health
There is no denying that the Indian construction equipment
market is going through a tough patch. According to specialist
forecasting company and consultant, Off-Highway Research,
whichhas anoffice inDelhi, unit salesof constructionequipment
in Indiawere down -15% last year, and a further -16%decline is
expected for 2014.
However, abounce-back is forecast for2015,with+25%growth
as the government of Narendra Modi, which won a landslide
victory in this year’s general election, converts its economic plans
to real construction activity on the ground.
As far as equipment types are concerned, backhoe loaders are
highlypopular in India.Even in this year’sdepressedmarket,Off-
Highway Research expects 22,500 such machines to be sold in
2014.This is forecast to go up to 27,000 units next year as the
market picks up.
However, the company says there arebetter long-termprospects
for bigger, more productive machines, as opposed to the near-
saturated backhoe loader market. Crawler excavator sales, for
example, are expected to grow from 9,100 machines this year
to some 25,000 units by 2018. Prospects
also look good for other core earthmoving
machines such as dozers, graders and
wheeled loaders.
New launches
But despite subduedmarket conditions at
themoment, bC Indiawill see the launch
of plenty of new constructionmachines.
