The USA's United Rentals posted
an 11.9% rise in year on year rental
revenue in its financial results for
the first quarter of 2015. Rental
revenue totalled $1.178 billion
(€1.082 billion) compared to $1.005
(€923 billion) for the same period
in 2014. Overall revenue was $1.315
billion (€1.208 billion), an increase
of $190 billion (€174.5 billion), and
net income for the quarter was
$115 million (€105.6 million). Within
rental revenue owned equipment
rental revenue increased by 12%,
reflecting year on year increases of
8.1% in the volume of equipment on
rent and 2.9%on rental rates.

GAP Group, UK, has finalised its
capital expenditure budget for 2015-
16 - resulting in an all-time high
to be spent on new equipment for
delivery in the next 12 months. With
an increase of 25% on last year’s
spend, GAP said it will plough £100
million (€140 million) into a raft
of new equipment. This includes
almost £40 million (€56 million) of
dumpers, excavators and rollers.

HSSHire is openinganaverageof
one new “local” depot per week and
aims to create 50 new stores this
year. It opened 13 in the first quarter.
The news came as HSS announced
its financial results for 2015, with
a 25.5% increase in revenues to
£284.6 million (€389.7 million) and
operating profits up 10.3% to £23.6
million (€32.3 million). However,
finance expenses increased by
more than 50% to £31 million (€42.5
million). HSS said it had seen robust
volume growth in both its core and
specialist businesses,

Updated trading figures for
the Lavendon Group show a 1%
increase in rental revenues within
a 2% rise in overall business. The
figures cover the three months
since 1 January and a statement
by the powered access equipment
rental specialist said it was “trading
in line with expectations”. Chief
executive Don Kenny said: “There
has been amodest growth in overall
group revenues and continuing
operational improvements.”

International construction
equipment manufacturer Chicago
Pneumatic has unveiled its new range
of mobile diesel-powered generators
for the European market. The rugged
and easy-to-move CPDG range
provides reliable and consistent
power to any construction site, with
five models available in 9, 14, 20, 30
and40 kVA ratings. Suitable for prime
power applications in the general
construction and rental industry, the
generators are fully CE compliant for
use in Europe.

The Bobcat S450 skid-steer loader
has been officially launched in the
Kuwaiti market at a special open day.
The event was held by Bahrah Trading
Company (BTC), the authorised
dealer for the Bobcat equipment
range in Kuwait. As well as Bobcat
loaders, telehandlers, excavators
and attachments, there were
demonstrations of Doosan Heavy
and Doosan Portable Power products,
for which BTC is also the authorised
dealer.

Construction equipment
manufacturer Yanmar has launched
its SV series of excavators for the
gardening and landscaping sector.
The range includes the SV26, which
the company described as its first
product designed and built entirely
in Europe, as well as the SV 16, 18
and 22 models. Yanmar, which has
its European manufacturing base
and sales office in France, launched
the short tail excavators to combine
outstanding fuel performance and
low fuel consumption.

The slump in construction output
inRussia is continuing, with the latest
figures from research company PMR
showing that output decreased 4.5%
year-on-year in 2014, althoughgrowth
is predicted for 2016. The 2014 fall,
which followed expansion of 0.1% a
year earlier, is highlighted in a PMR
report called Construction Sector
in Russia H1 2015 – Development
Forecasts for 2015 to 2020. According
to PMR, the key factors contributing
to the decline in construction activity
in the past few years included weak
economic growth

The The Czech Republic’s
construction sector recorded output
growthof 3.5% toover CZK400billion
(€15 billion) in 2014, following five
years of consecutive results declines,
according PMR. It said the improved
picturewas attributable to a recovery
in the civil engineering sector. It said
that modest growth was likely to
continue further this year, and into
2016.

The power rental market in the
Middle East and Africa is projected
be worth more than $9 billion (€8
billion) in 2019 at annual growth of
approximately 18% in the next four
years. The figures come from a report
by specialist publisher Markets &
Markets, which said utilities and oil
and gas would be the key business
sectors. The company estimates the
globalmarket tobeworth$21.6billion
(€19.3 billion) in the same timescale.
