ACT
MARCH 2014
CONEXPO
SHOW GUIDE
highlighted the design benefits of the new
luffing jib crane.
“For luffing jib tower cranes, two of the
most important considerations are its
out-of-service radius and the counter jib
length,” he said. “The cranes are designed
to work on extremely congested sites, so
the less space they take up the better. With
the Potain MR 418, we have an extremely
compact crane that’s quick to assemble,
quick to commission and capable of
extremely fast lifting speeds on high-rise
job sites.”
High speed operation is another feature
of the MR 418. It luffs the jib from the
horizontal position to the vertical in 1
minute 16 seconds, well under the two
minutes that most luffing jib cranes of this
size would require, Potain said. New is the
auto-levelling function to allow loads to be
moved horizontally using only the luffing
motion, rather than the luffing motion
combined with the hoist.
With the MR 418, a free-standing height
of 90 meters can be achieved on a 10 X
10 meter base when fitted with 35 meters
of jib. Only three anchorages are needed
to reach a working height of 170 meters.
When anchored to a building, the crane’s
mast can extend 53.2 meters above the last
anchorage point.
The Potain Igo T 130 self-erecting crane
has a 50 meter jib to cover small and
medium job sites. Working height can be
altered according to project requirements.
Manitowoc said the crane will appeal
to customers who have experience with
the older Potain HDT 80, a popular self-
erecting crane in North America.
TRAILERS/TRANSPORT
SYSTEMS
COMETTO INDUSTRIE, H-244, LVH PAVILION
,
has been producing heavy haul trailers
and systems since the early 1950s. The
big news at the Cometto stand will be the
introduction to the U.S. of its 60-ton-per-
line self-propelled mobile transporter, the
Cometto MSPE.
FAYMONVILLE DISTRIBUTION, SILVER LOT
3611
, will launch the CombiMax, a new
global semi-trailer concept. ACT will
include information about this new
transporter system in the April issue.
GOLDHOFER, GOLD LOT 2836
, has a surprise
for customers of its well-known transport
systems. Goldhofer will show a new four
axle-module type THP/DR 4 as well as a
six-axle self-propelled transporter type
PST/SL-E 6 with hydra-static drive system
and electronic multi-way steering system.
The new THP/DR heavy-duty module
system was developed specially for the
North American market. (See our Product
Focus: Trailers starting on page 33 for
more information.)
“Now we are raising the ante with the
THP/DR, and the order books already
show that our new vehicle is a 100
percent answer to the constantly changing
requirements in the U.S.A. and a cost-
effective solution at the same time,” said
Horst Häfele, sales director for heavy duty
modules. “The fact that we are right on
target with our new products is confirmed
by the constantly high level of demand
there, which is something we need in
order to maintain our position as the
market leader in North America, too.”
TII GROUP (SCHEUERLE/KAMAG/NICOLAS),
SILVER LOT 3905
, announced some big
news prior to ConExpo: It will build and
test some units in the U.S., including the
new Scheuerle Highway Trailer, which will
make its debut in Las Vegas.
The new model is the result of a
cooperation with the Precision Companies
PFC, PEI and PMI, based in Florida.
Unveiled at Bauma in 2013, the
Scheuerle HighwayTrailer, with its
lightweight construction, is an ideal
solution for the American market. The
special design of the centralized middle
frame provides the vehicle with a high
level of stability and loading capacity.
The standard model for the U.S. market
is the double telescopic variant, but it is
also available in single or non-telescopic
versions. Its hydraulic axle compensation,
the lowest dead weight of its class, results
in a maximized payload of up to 120 tons
as well as a load length of about 107 feet.
The Scheuerle Highway Trailer is available
with hydraulically balanced gooseneck or
with trailer equipment.
Also on display from Scheuerle is a
four-axle Wide Combi Power Booster.
The Wide Combi has been customized
to fully comply with U.S. legislation
and to deal with road conditions here,
the manufacturer said. It uses proven
pendulum axle technology where the
hydraulic cylinders in the axles provide a
damping action, compensate for ground
unevenness, and offer a high lifting range
to drive under and lift loads. A steering
angle of up to 60 degrees is possible.
Another TII Group exhibit is the
Scheuerle-Kamag K25 Power Booster.
ROGERS BROTHERS, SILVER LOT 5861
, is
showing two new trailers, one of which is
TII Group announced it will build its HighwayTrailer in the United States.
Cometto’s first 60-ton-per-line SPMT in
the U.S. was sold to State Service based
in Corpus Christie, TX.
Goldhofer will show its new 4-axle modular type THP/DR 4, designed specifically for the U.S.
