The demolition sector is generally regarded as being
themost hazardous in the construction industry
and inadequate attention being given to appropriate
training and the establishment of an effective safety
culture within a contractor’s workforce can lead to
highly visible incidents and accidents. As a result,
modern contractors devote considerable efforts to
ensure that their workers are fully skilled in their daily
operations, are fully trained to carry out this work,
and recognise the need to consider safety during
every phase of their activities with regard to their
personal safety and the safety of others around them
on site, and also those others in proximity to the
work being carried out on the site.

The Safety and Training Award is intended to
recognise the efforts of an individual contractor in
achieving the highest standards of on- and off-site
safety, and ensuring that its employees are fully
and appropriately trained for the duties they are
expected to carry out as part of their normal daily
work.
This year, seven contractors have been identified
by the judging panel from the submitted entries as
having an exemplary safety and training ethos that
has been established company-wide. Determining
the overall winner is likely to give the judging panel
itsmost challenging task this year. In alphabetical
order, the seven are:
