Volvo’s Stage IV high
reaches unveiled
Swedish dust suppression equipment supplier
Duztech used Intermat to launch newmist
cannonmodels in the shape of the T300 RMT
and T400 RMT. Both are compact and light in
weight and also feature remote control of all
functions as standard. Automatic swing operation
to distribute thewatermist over large areas
is also standard on both. They also feature low
power consumption, with the smaller T300 RMT
drawing just 16 A and throwing amist up to 30
m (99 ft). The larger
T400 RMT uses 32A
and has a range of 40
m (132 ft). Thewater
flow rate of both
machines is adjustable
to suit operational
requirements. Thewater
mist generated by both
units is extremely fine
and therefore effective
against airborne dust.
Atlas goes
electric
AtlasMaschinen used Intermat as the
launch platform for its first-ever electric
drivematerial handler when it took the
wraps off the 350MH E at the show. The
company says that themachine is result of
an increasing demand it has identified for
machines of this type, with their inherent
low energy consumption, zero refuelling
downtime, zero CO2 emissions and almost
silent operation.
Based on the standard 350MH using
proven Linde hydraulics, the electric version
has the same reach of 18.2m (59.7 ft)
and can use all existing attachments. The
electric drive system is integrated into the
machine in place of the diesel and provides
a power level of 170 kW (228 hp), with a
main drive with 132 kW (177 hp) powering
themaster hydraulics and an auxiliary drive
supplying pilot control and steering. The
electrical supply comes via an 80m (263
ft) power cable that can be reeled in at
any time, allowing themachine to freely
rotate 360° and offering a 75m (246 ft)
maximumworking radius.
Operation is almost silent – particularly
important for long shifts in the operator’s
cab. The control panels for the electrical
system, the heating and climate control are
integrated into the existing operating panels
to the right and left of the driver’s seat.
The air ventilation system in the cab is the
same as in the standardmachine. As an
option Atlas also offers a rear view camera
with colour display to allow the operator to
monitor the cable at the rear powering the
machine.
I
ntermat saw the first appearance of one
of twonewhigh reaches fromVolvo,
its 57.1 tonneEC480EHR and it also
announced the launchof a smaller sibling,
the 46.4 tonneEC380EHR. Both feature a
VolvoStage IV/Tier 4Final diesel andoffer an
improvedworking range over 360° over the
tracks to reduce theneed for repositioning
duringdemolitionoperations. According
toVolvo, its latest generationof high reach
benefits from improvements to themachine
structure andhydraulic system, with each
optimised to carryheavier attachments (3
tonnes in the case of the 380 and3.5 tonnes
for the 480) and themaximumpinheight has
been increased towiden theworking range.
This gives theEC380EHR aheight of 23.1m
(75.7 ft) and theEC480EHR aheight of 28.2
m (92.4 ft).
An innovativehydraulicmodular joint
uses ahydraulicdual full pin lockmechanism
to releasedigging equipment and change
fromhigh-reachdemolition to a standard
boom. To achieve the correct flow and
pressure for hydraulic attachments such as
breakers, shears, crushers, sorting grabs and
tilt rotators, themachine canbe factory-fitted
with awide varietyof hydraulic lines to suit.
The attachmentmanagement system
stores the settings for up to20different
hydraulic attachments for ease of operation.
Dependingon thehydraulic options
configured, themanagement system can
store flow,maximumpressure, and settings
for operating comfort.
